In 1937 the Olympic cyclist Marco Cimatti founded a small company in Bologna, Italy that originally produced bicycles. In 1950 Cimatti changed to mopeds, and in the 1960s produced the Velocim moped, with Minarelli P1 motor, along with motorcycles and fully enclosed scooters. Marco’s son, Enrico Cervantes Cimatti, expanded the business to export to the United States, France, Norway and Tunisia.  By 1977 they only produced 50cc models: Chic, Town Bike, Twin Sport, Gran Prix XL and City Bike (all with tube frame, Minarelli V1 1-speed automatic engine). This 1975 Cimatti City Bike features a 1.0 horsepower, 20 mph version Minarelli V1 motor with metal fan shroud, 9T, Ø7 intake, restricted cylinder, Dellorto SHA 14/9 carburetor & #48 jet.  It has the following CEV components: lights, switches, horn, speedometer, driver, cable, magneto, points, condenser, & coils.  It features Domino “1970s chrome” levers/controls & Grimeca wheel hubs, brakes, and axle parts. This particular moped is one of a pair.  They were originally purchased in 1976 from Track & Trail Bike Shop just a few blocks from Detroit Moped Works!  The original owner’s grandkids brought the pair to us in real “barn find” condition.  This one has less than 500 miles and the other only has 25 miles on it!We restored these low mile mopeds back to their original condition replacing the rotten rubber on the pedals, fuel line, tires, and tubes; then tuned them up, washed them down and waxed them to their original luster. The Minarelli V1 motors are highly desirable as they are very durable and have many options for speed upgrades.Fun Fact: These were sold for $368.69 each back in 1976 which, taking into account inflation translates to $1,563.88 in today’s money?!?!?!?These peds are a great piece of history as a pair or on their own. The second one will be listed soon; Make an offer on both!
