Yamaha wanted to create something cool and different, and to that we say mission accomplishedThe YXZ1000R owns the pure sport category at this point, and it’s possible Yamaha did such a goodjob with the machine that we may never see a direct competitor to itWe are impressed with what Yamaha built, and there’s a lot to like about the machineI instantly felt comfortable behind the wheel of the YXZ1000R, and for a machine thisperformance-minded I think that speaks to the quality of the overall packageThe machine was composed over the biggest, chunkiest whoop sections, and we especiallyimpressed when it soaked up even the harshest downhill transitions at speedGetting used to the manual shifter didn’t take much time – and it makes for a more intenseriding experience
What a machineNot disappointed in any way!This side-by-side raises the level of fun to “11” on a 1 to 10 scaleThe Yamaha YXZ1000R is a true sport side-by-side in every respect from the high horsepowerto the suspension travelThe YXZ1000R takes on looks like a fighter jet which is a perfect synonym for this side-by-sideI found the cab to be sporty and comfortable with visibility better than competitive unitsI can’t find anything about it to complain about or change…at all
What can we say? We love the fact that the YXZ has a sequential shift transmission!No CVT system means no belts to worry about, and less HP loss between the motor and rear wheelsWith all of the quick shifting we were doing in the desert and in the dunes, we never missed a shiftThis is the best feeling transmission we have used in just about anything we have drivenIt was exhilarating to slam through the gears and feel the YXZ continue to pull with every throwNot only can the YXZ handle long whoop sections with ease, it can also corner like the true sport UTV it isThe cockpit is extremely comfortable […] and the interior of the YXZ sort of just wraps around you, givingyou a feeling of security without sacrificing roominessForward visibility in the YXZ is fantastic

With its unique rear trailing arms, oversized shocks that are so massive they have to stab through the front hood in order to fit, aggressive Yamaha YFZ and Raptor-like styling, sports car interior with a big inviting sequential shifter on the center console and a ferocious-looking fire-breathing triple cylinder engine that resembles something you would see in a muscle car, it’s the gotta-get-a-closer-look-at-thisthing of our modern time[W]hen I look at the YXZ I’m still stunned that it’s not some one-off concept vehicle, these incredible off road machines are actually for sale at Yamaha dealers! I still can’t believe it.The Yamaha YXZ is the top-shelf performer in the UTV scene[T]his one-of-kind off-road machine is indeed the king of the high-performance side-by-side machinesThere’s nothing out there that offers a ride quite like the YXZ does[T]he machine handles the high-speeds more like a trophy truck than a UTV[I]t’s solid, planted and true even while hammering the machine through whoop-infested turns at high speeds[Y]ou feel like a rock star off-road racer every time you pick off a gearHow’s the Rekluse Clutch?It doesn’t increase or decrease performance of the Yamaha YXZ 1000R; it simply prevents the YXZ from stalling when coming to a stop. It has no effect on shifting whatsoever. The Rekluse clutch is a great purchase for new drivers or those spending their time rock crawling, mud bogging or on tight woods trails.o Shift or Not To Shift?Is the manual 5-speed on the Yamaha YXZ1000R better than the automatic CVT of the Polaris RZR, Can-Am Maverick or Arctic Cat Wildcat? The YXZ’s manual transmission is not only exciting to drive, but it’s also darn near bulletproof. You will never need to change a CVT belt, because there isn’t one, but you will need to replace the clutch plates from time to time (we’ll give you a better idea on this timeline as we put more time on our long-term test unit). Driving a High Performance Sport UTV with a manual transmission offers a much different experience than that of the CVT-equipped UTVs.It’s not better or worse, but it’s decided on your driving style and experience as well as the trails you’ll be charging. The Fox Shox that comes stock on the machine are fully adjustable and compression can be set to make the ride smoother in rough terrain. We took the YXZ1000R and pinned it into the sand whoops at 70 mph and the suspension stayed consistent and the machine went straight throughout the bumps.Starting at $19,799.00, the insanely fun sequential shifting side-by-side will cost you a pretty penny. However, the biggest downsides to this machine is that it does not have a low gear, so those who wish to play on tight, technical, and gnarly terrain may find that this isn’t the best option as a family rock-crawler. Still, this machine would make a good chase vehicle for a long-distance motorcycle ride, since it could carry water, snacks, extra fuel and spare parts in its 300 lb-capacity cargo bed. While we will never give up two-wheels for four, we wouldn’t mind adding this to our garage of off-road toys.

The Fox Shox that comes stock on the machine are fully adjustable and compression can be set to make the ride smoother in rough terrain. We took the YXZ1000R and pinned it into the sand whoops at 70 mph and the suspension stayed consistent and the machine went straight throughout the bumps.Starting at $19,799.00, the insanely fun sequential shifting side-by-side will cost you a pretty penny. However, the biggest downsides to this machine is that it does not have a low gear, so those who wish to play on tight, technical, and gnarly terrain may find that this isn’t the best option as a family rock-crawler. Still, this machine would make a good chase vehicle for a long-distance motorcycle ride, since it could carry water, snacks, extra fuel and spare parts in its 300 lb-capacity cargo bed. While we will never give up two-wheels for four, we wouldn’t mind adding this to our garage of off-road toys.
