Description
Condition: Used

For sale is a VW Sand Rail I purchased from the original builder. It has a clear title and can be made street legal with minimal effort (200 dollars or so).
The subframes are from a 1968 VW Beetle.
Highlights:
Dual rebuilt Weber DCNF 40 Carburetors from a Ferrari Dino 246, probably need some tuning, these are about 500 dollars alone.
Upgraded cans, pistons, rings, wrist pins, and crank give it 1900cc displacement.
Pertronics electronic ignition (no more points!)
EMPI Exhaust (Not pictured... just installed it) to make it quieter, also includes obnoxiously loud exhaust if that's your style!
Rebuilt front brakes
Large curved light bar as pictured
Transmission is from a 1972 Beetle
Shifter bushings replaced with EMPI heavy duty bushings (super nice shifts now!)
Wired for top mounted lights (not mounted or included though)
Comes with a super-nifty tow bar so moving it around is easy as having a 1 7/8 ball on your car/truck (it weighs like 800 lbs... so a truck really isn't needed to tow this thing). Things that need work:
Needs carb tuning... runs fine enough for me, but its still pretty rich and it shows in the way it idles rough when cold.
Needs rear brakes hooked up and bled. one side has been rebuilt and new soft lines have been run, but I haven't had a chance to get it bled. It does stop as-is though with just the front brakes.
Tires are overall in fine shape for off roading, but if you plan to drive it on the road frequently I'd replace them. Doesn't come with:
American Flag. Overall it's a pretty solid little machine. I absolutely love it, but unfortunately I go to school in North Carolina and I just dont have time for it anymore. As is it'd make a great off-road buggy and with a little work and some tires it'd be great as a road going mad-max-mobile. It will need to be towed because it is not currently street legal, although I do have tags on it. Miles are unknown because there's no odometer... but since rebuilding it it hasn't had more than 500 miles put on it.
