Let me start out by saying that I am not a VW expert, collector or mechanic.  I will answer your questions as best as I can.  My late neighbor built this buggy in 1971 using a 1961 donor Beetle.  It is assumed that all running gear is from a 1961 Beetle.  I purchased it from his family in 2004 after it sat in his garage several years after his passing.  After pushing it to my garage I spent the next three weeks getting it to running/driving condition.  New wheels and tires, starter, fuel pump, rebuilt carb,  master cylinder,  brake shoes, wheel cylinders, hoses, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, points voltage regulator, front and rear coil over shocks, new exhaust,  bugpack shifter, axle bearings and seals and adjusted valves on the heads.  It runs and drives good and has never stranded me on the road.  The body is an original unpainted Citation body in blue metal flake.  No repairs or cracks.  Some tire rubbing on the side panels from turning the front wheels to sharp. The floor pan in front of the seats has some metal panels riveted in from being rusted through.  It has always dripped some oil from the engine.  I changed it recently and cleaned the oil strainer which should be cleaned every other oil change.  The generator does not charge and never did.  I changed the voltage regulator and that did not help.  For years I just kept the battery on a trickle charger and have driven it all weekend without killing the battery.  Changing the generator is nothing I wanted to get into.  There is rust in the fuel tank.  I flushed it out as best as I could and installed in line fuel filters.  I have not had a problem with plugging of the filters or fuel lines.  It is street legal and registered as a historical vehicle.  Titled as a 1961 Volkswagen dune buggy convertible.  Any questions call me after 6 pm eastern time at 216-319-9364.  You are welcome to come look at and drive it.  Payment in cash or certified check.  If you plan on shipping it you will have to arrange it.
